What started in 1963 with the construction of the first chair lift, is now one of the most modern ski regions in Europe. One sees evidence for this in numerous international awards for ski areas. Modern lift facilities, safe transport with gondolas into ski areas located at high elevations, make Flachau into an ideal ski area for the very smallest people on skis. So that skiers with little experience can enjoy an ideal day skiing, there is an adequate number of blue family runs and practice slopes with snow assured into the spring. Flachau is part of the Salzburg Sports World and in the centre of the largest Austrian ski alliance, Ski amadé. The Ski amadé ski alliance encompasses the ski areas: Salzburger Sport World, Schladming Dachstein, Gastein, Hochkönig and Großarl. With just one ski pass you can use 270 lifts in Ski amadé, ski on 760 km of pistons with guaranteed snow and use the ski bus service.
